Editorial Guidelines
Our commitment to accuracy, authenticity, and respect in presenting the sacred wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita.
Our Guiding Principles
At Nitya, we approach the Bhagavad Gita with reverence, scholarly rigor, and a commitment to making its wisdom accessible to modern readers. These editorial guidelines ensure consistency and quality across all our content.
Sanskrit Text Standards
Our Sanskrit verses adhere to the following standards:
- Source: We use the critical edition of the Bhagavad Gita as preserved in the Mahabharata, cross-referenced with the Gita Press (Gorakhpur) edition
- Transliteration: IAST (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration) standard for accurate pronunciation guidance
- Verification: All verses are verified against multiple authoritative sources before publication
Translation Methodology
Our translations balance literal accuracy with readability:
- Primary sources: We reference translations by recognized scholars including S. Radhakrishnan, Swami Sivananda, Swami Prabhupada, and Sir Edwin Arnold
- Cross-reference: Each translation is compared across multiple sources to ensure accuracy of meaning
- Clarity: We prioritize clear, accessible language while preserving the original meaning and spiritual essence
- Context: Translations include consideration of the verse's context within the chapter and overall Gita narrative
Commentary & Explanation Standards
Our explanations and modern applications follow these principles:
- Traditional foundation: All explanations are grounded in classical commentaries (bhashyas) from major Vedantic traditions
- Scholarly support: Claims about meaning or application are supported by traditional or academic sources
- Practical relevance: Modern applications connect ancient wisdom to contemporary life without distorting the original teaching
- Inclusive approach: We present the Gita's universal wisdom without sectarian bias, acknowledging diverse interpretive traditions
